02/08/08: Donnie honored
Below is from today's issue of the Boston Globe:

For Donnie Wahlberg, getting an award last night from the Tufts-New England Medical Center was special enough. But for the Celtics fan to be nominated by C's captain Paul Pierce? Priceless. "I'm humbled by his nomination," Wahlberg told us. "But that it's in Boston is what makes it so great." Also honored were geneticist Dr. Diana Bianchi and Eastern Bank CEO Richard Holbrook. And what of persistent reports that Wahlberg's former band, New Kids on the Block, will reunite? "Nothing's concrete," he said, "but anything's possible."

12/19/07: Real Men Cry
Below is from The Boston Herald: (Thanks Wendy!)
And that the gang from Yari Films’ “Real Men Cry,” haven’t finished up their filming around town, but they held their wrap party at the Seapoint in Southie on Saturday night. The movie by Brian Goodman, which expects to call it quits in Boston on Friday, stars, as you are so aware by now, Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo, Amanda Peet, Donnie Wahlberg, local bad boy Jay Giannone and Lenny Clarke.
12/09/07: Real Men Cry
Below is from bostonmovietours.net:
The movie trucks were setup all along I Street in Southie on Thursday. As we were on tour, we could not not tell exactly where they were shooting but The Quencher Tavern was in the center of activity.
Our best guess is the movie was Real Men Cry with Ethan Hawk, Amanda Peet and Donnie Wahlberg. Real Men Cry has been filming all over Southie on a daily basis.
And if the filmmakers were using The Quencher Tavern, it wouldn't be a coincidence. The Quencher Tavern was used in the 1998 local gangster classic Southie. That movie also starred Peet, Wahlberg and South Boston native Brian Goodman who is directing the current flick.
12/09/07: Real Men Cry
Below is from the Nov. 27th Issue of the
Boston Globe:
It was all smiles for "Real Men Cry" stars Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo, and Amanda Peet as they gathered on M Street in South Boston early yesterday for the first day of filming. The gritty crime flick, written and directed by Southie native Brian Goodman, is about two friends who turn to crime as a way to get by and will be filming in the area for the next couple of months. Donnie Wahlberg also stars.
12/09/07: Real Men Cry
Below is from the Nov. 27th Issue of the
Boston Herald:
Shooting began in Southie yesterday on the Ethan Hawke-Mark Ruffalo-Amanda Peet-Donnie Wahlberg flick “Real Men Cry.”
The crime drama, written by Wahlberg and ex-Southie bad guy Brian Goodman and directed by Goodman, kicked off with a scene where Hawke runs out of a triple-decker and jumps into an old silver Lincoln after banging on the window. Which the “Fast Food Nation” star did over and over and over again for the cameras.
Goodman’s bad-boy tale about two friends who join a local gang of criminals is based on his own real-life experiences and those of a pal who is now serving 100 years for armed robbery.
BTW, Southie homey Jay Giannone of “The Departed” and “Gone Baby Gone” fame, plays neighborhood weasel, Matt, in the flick.

10/08/07: Donnie on filming "Righteous Kill"
Below is from
The Advocate:
STAMFORD - Actor Donnie Wahlberg strolled out of the Trump Parc sales office yesterday like he lived there.
Wahlberg was filming a scene outside the Broad Street building for the eighth major motion picture shot in Stamford this summer.
The "Band of Brothers" star casually lit a cigarette and ducked into an unmarked New York City police cruiser, a prop from the film "Righteous Kill," which stars Robert De Niro and Al Pacino as New York police detectives and is being shot in lower Fairfield County.
"Stamford's got everything you need for it to look like a big city, but the people are a little more small-townish," Wahlberg said. "They're a little more appreciative."
Filming took place at the sales office of Trump Parc, a soon-to-be luxury condominium tower that, at 34 stories, will be Stamford's tallest structure. It is being built by developers Louis Cappelli and Thomas Rich under the Donald Trump brand. Construction began in May.
(You can read the rest of the article here.)
10/08/07: "Eyes on the prizes"
Below is from the September 18th issue of the
Boston Globe:
Sean McDonough's annual fund-raiser for children's charities raised about $500,000 Sunday. Among the auction items generating the most dough were courtside seats to a Celtics game - with Donnie Wahlberg. The former New Kid happened to be in the house Sunday, and when the bidding topped $10,000, Wahlberg offered to go to games with both bidders, and also tossed $10,000 into the kitty himself. But the priciest item of the evening was a week at a sumptuous spread in the Italian countryside. For that, George Boedecker, creator of Crocs, ponied up $40,000.

The drama also stars Robert De Niro; rapper 50 Cent, a Farmington resident, and Martin Scorsese.

09/03/07: Kill Point Finale Ratings
Below is from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"Ratings for the finale of Spike TV's Pittsburgh-filmed series "The Kill Point" are out and the news is pretty good. The two-hour episode, which dispatched Mr. Wolf (John Leguizamo) to meet his maker while another robber (Frank Grillo) escaped to Canada, was watched by 1.7 million viewers, up from 1.5 million viewers the week before.
Better yet for the show's chances of renewal, "Kill Point" ended with its highest young male demo ratings yet.
Overall, the series averaged 1.8 million viewers during its run, improving Spike's performance in the time period by 65 percent in household ratings and 59 percent among male viewers ages 18-34.
No official word on a renewal for season two, but it remains a likely possibility." (Donnie has told me that Kill Point may get a second season, so keep your fingers crossed!)

09/03/07: "Lovin' His Celtics"
Below is from the August 31st issue of the
Boston Globe:
Before Donnie Wahlberg arrived at his 38th birthday bash at Ed Kane's Back Bay club Estate, all eyes were on the go-go girls wearing green short shorts and Celtics jerseys. Wahlberg couldn't take credit for the hard-bodied hoofers, but he wasn't complaining, either. "Celtics shirts never looked so good," said the not-so-New Kid on the Block, who showed up at the party with his onetime bandmate Jordan Knight. Organized by a friend, the fete provided Wahlberg a brief respite from work. (He's starring on Spike TV's "The Kill Point" and starts shooting "Righteous Kill," with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, in Connecticut next week.) So what about his beloved Boston Celtics? Is Wahlberg, like everyone else, predicting another banner? "They're going to be good," said Mark Wahlberg's older brother, who sits courtside at the Garden. "If I could change one thing about the [Kevin Garnett] deal, I would fight to keep Ryan Gomes. But I also love the Eddie House pickup. The guy's deadly and he's courageous." Not a big party person, Wahlberg said he was just happy to hang out with Knight again. "We've been through some stuff together," said Wahlberg. "Jordan's a great kid."

You can listen to a radio interview with Donnie

09/03/07: Why Horst Cali?!?
Below is from the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Q: I've been watching "The Kill Point" series, partly because of the Pittsburgh setting and partly because I did a little time as a "background artist," and I've had one question that pops up every time I tune in: Where on earth did the name "Horst Cali" come from for Donnie Wahlberg's character?
As far as I'm concerned, that might just be the most implausible element of the show! (I think it's actually pretty compelling, but I wonder how they'll manage to drag out the hostage drama for three more episodes.)
-- Lisa, Point Breeze
Rob: "Kill Point" supervising producer Todd Harthan offers up this explanation: "[Series creator James] Demonaco and I were big fans of the character of Chico from the '60s show "The Magnificant Seven." The actor who played Chico was Horst Buchholz. "Cali" is the maiden name of Demonaco's new wife, Selena Cali."

08/08/07: Donnie's Approval
Below is from the August 1st issue of the
Boston Herald:
And while we’re on the KG subject, Boston Celtics [team stats] superfan Donnie Wahlberg yesterday gave the Garnett trade the big thumb’s up, but said he was sad to see Al Jefferson [stats], Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff [stats]e and Sebastian Telfair [stats] ejected from the Green Team’s line-up.
“I’m sad to see the young guys go,” said the Dorchester homey in an e-mail. “They are a group of classy young men. That said, getting KG makes losing them, suffering through the last few awful years and all of the loyalty of the TRUE Celtics fans worth it!”
Donnie said he’s also glad Garnett’s turning Green to take the pressure off captain Paul Pierce.
“He hung in there and now he’s being rewarded for having such class,” said the star of “The Kill Point.”
“Now maybe my brother, Mark, will wake up and stop being a Lakers fan,” he joked. “I suspect a few more Hollywood fakers may come home to the C’s now, too.”
Our fingers are crossed . . .

08/03/07: Co-Workers' Thoughts about Donnie
Laurel Johnson (who plays Donnie's wife in "The Kill Point") said this about Donnie: “He’s so funny, like, a total goofball. He was always joking, always in a good mood. I’d catch his eye and he’d wink at me. . . He’s just as cute as Mark and a whole lot taller.” (Cleveland Scene)
John Leguizamo (who plays Mr. Wolf in "The Kill Point) said this in a recent interview with Crave Online:
Crave Online: Working with Wahlberg again after the straight-to-video Body Count, was it like no time had passed?
John Leguizamo: It was a little bit like that. It was like a reunion, a love fest. How long has it been? It was 10 years? No way, man. It was Donnie, it was Forest Whitaker, David Caruso, Linda Fiorentino, Ving Rhames. It was like the most ideal, incredible cast and then you saw what happened to it.
Crave Online: So you hadn’t kept in touch?
John Leguizamo: It’s hard. You get friendly on the set and you feel like a bond and stuff but then your lives, he lives in another part, the wrong coast. LA, right? And I live in New York. It’s hard to keep [up]. He came back and here he is, this full fledged, well rounded actor. He wants to take this thing to the next level, like what you eventually do. You want to take the script to a better place, improve the characters, improve the whole story. He was working with the writers all the time, bothering them, because you’ve got to bother them. You gotta demand more from them otherwise you’re not going to get more.
Crave Online: Did you guys read lines for each other when you’re on the phone in the movie?
John Leguizamo: We read a little bit. We met at the hotel and we read all our lines that we had together because we didn’t know if we were going to able to. We tried to do the phone thing, like be there on the cell phone. They call you wherever you’re at. That got tough because you get cut off and all of a sudden, it’s going great and then if you can’t get the guy. I fired the first guy. It wasn’t helping, it was hurting.

You can read a review of the Righteous Kill script on IESB.net.
07/23/07: Tobin Bell discusses working with Donnie
Below is from TV Guide's interview with Tobin Bell:
TVGuide.com: Did you welcome the opportunity to work with Donnie Wahlberg, whom you tormented in Saw II, under more pleasant circumstances?
Bell: I like working with Donnie. He has a very strong sense of truth, and I appreciate that in an actor. I very much enjoyed working with him in Saw II, and we enjoyed getting together again for this. And Leguizamo, I thought he was fabulous. I've seen his work on stage in New York, doing one-man shows, but I had not really seen his work as a drama actor. I was very impressed with what he did with the character.

Donnie was on ESPN's First Take yesterday morning to promote The Kill Point. You can view screencaps in the photo gallery.
07/19/07: Inside Bay Area
Below is from Inside Bay Area:
Donnie Wahlberg, who starred in the CW's "Runaway" last year, says he's happy to be at the small cable network Spike TV this season because the cable networks know it's best to not meddle too much.
"It got ridiculous there with people who just had to keep trying to 'fix' things instead of letting it be," Wahlberg says. "Here, the money may be less, but the creative control is so much greater and you see it in the product."
His series, "The Kill Point," which airs at 9 p.m. Sunday, is a tense roller-coaster ride involving a bank robbery gone wrong. He plays a hostage negotiator trying to talk down the heist leader played by John Leguizamo.
